Jane Burtenshaw

Director of Employer Relations

What I do at MidKent College

Hello, I'm Jane and I'm Director of Employer Relations.

Why is my title ‘Employer Relations’? Well, that's because the majority of what I manage involves meeting the needs of local businesses and ensuring that as a training provider of apprenticeship standards our offer is aligned local skills needs, supports local business with trainees, and equipping those trainees with the skills they need to be successful in their chosen careers.

Why MidKent College

I have been fortunate to work in an aspect of skills and training where I have been able to contribute thousands of young people taking their first steps into employment and developing their careers.  I have worked with, and continue to work with supportive, forward thinking local employers who have adopted the apprenticeship route to support the growth and development of their businesses.

The ever-changing requirements and high levels of compliance in apprenticeships means I manage a team of very busy people, who have to adapt to constant change quickly but that is all part of working with apprenticeships - challenging at times but extremely rewarding.

Who am I?

I have over 25 years working in further education, 16 of these managing apprenticeships and adult skills.

Advice for prospective candidates

We are a diverse team from a wide variety of backgrounds each bringing the breadth of their knowledge and experiences, and richness of their cultures, to the team. We work together to support our students and collectively celebrate their achievements.  Whatever your role in the apprenticeship team you will feel valued and supported.
